ABOUT ABOUT

The Welcoming Center for New Pennsylvanians and AL DÍA News Media invite you to a celebration of how immigrants are contributing to the economic vitality of the city of Philadelphia.

As our city continues to re-emerge as a major immigrant destination, the city’s ability to integrate and support these newcomers is increasingly critical.  Immigrant integration is a two-way investment and by advancing immigrant integration as a key economic development strategy, we maximize our efforts to ensure the success of individuals and position the region to be competitive in the global economy.

The event will highlight the contributions of a few notable immigrants in the region who have contributed in a substantial way to support their communities or made notable strides in business or other endeavors. The event will also provide a platform for public discussion around the next phase of immigrant integration in Philadelphia.

We hope to begin the evening with a presentation from a representative of the White House Task Force on New Americans as a way to set the national context for the evening.  This will be followed by a panel discussion moderated by Derek Green and will conclude with a keynote address from Jim Kenney, current democratic candidate and projected next mayor of the city, on our plans for boosting the region's economy through immigrant integration.

This event is made possible by the kind support of: Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce, Ukrainian Selfreliance Federal Credit Union, and the Philadelphia Mayor's Office of Immigrant and Multicultural Affairs

Tickets are $45, and all proceeds go toward supporting education and training programs at the Welcoming Center for New Pennsylvanians.

The Welcoming Center for New Pennsylvanians connects newly arrived individuals from around the world with the economic opportunities that they need to succeed in our region. Since opening our doors in 2003, we have assisted more than 10,000 people from over 140 countries.

We believe that a steady influx of new customers, workers, and entrepreneurs can reinvigorate Pennsylvania’s aging population, renew its neighborhoods, and re-energize our economy. By making Pennsylvania a magnet for immigrants, we will become a more vibrant, more creative, and more dynamic competitor in today’s global economy.

Our mission is clear - to be a centralized employment and referral center for the region’s growing immigrant community by promoting immigrant participation in the area’s political, social, and economic life. To that end, we work closely with the many regional organizations that have a stake in immigration. These include government agencies, service providers, employers, business associations, trade unions, and economic development groups.
